At Paula Dixon Design, inspiration isn't found solely in showrooms or design publications. Some of our greatest lessons come from the places we visit and the stories they tell. EUROPE: A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Travel has been part of my story for as long as I can remember. My father began living in Europe when I was six years old, and those early experiences instilled a lasting appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship, and the unique ways different cultures shape the spaces they call home. Long before I became an interior designer, I was unknowingly developing an eye for timeless design by wandering historic streets, admiring centuries-old buildings, and noticing the details that make each destination distinct.
Every hand-laid stone, carefully proportioned façade, and weathered architectural detail reflects generations of skilled craftsmanship. These buildings were designed not only to serve a purpose but to endure. They tell stories of the people who built them and continue to welcome those who experience them today.
That philosophy resonates deeply with the way we approach interior design.
Rather than designing around passing trends, we believe homes should be rooted in timeless architecture, thoughtful materials, and intentional details that continue to feel relevant for years to come. Whether it's natural stone, custom millwork, handcrafted furnishings, or layered architectural elements, we are continually drawn to materials and finishes that celebrate quality and authenticity.

California: Nature's Quiet Influence
California has long been what I affectionately call my "soul state." It holds a special place in my heart—not only for its breathtaking landscapes, but because it's where my husband and I were married. Over the years, we've returned time and again to explore its scenic coastline, each visit offering a renewed appreciation for the effortless connection between nature, architecture, and intentional living. From rugged cliffs and towering cypress trees to the ever-changing rhythm of the Pacific, California continues to inspire the way I see beauty and the way I approach design.
Standing before the vast Pacific Ocean has a way of shifting perspective. The endless horizon, rhythmic waves, volcanic landscapes, and lush tropical surroundings remind us that nature has always been the world's greatest designer.
Its beauty isn't loud. It isn't overcomplicated.
It is balanced, organic, and timeless.
These experiences continually reinforce our love for biophilic design—creating interiors that foster a connection between people and the natural world. Warm wood tones, organic textures, abundant natural light, layered materials, and calming color palettes help create homes that feel restorative and welcoming.
Rather than competing with nature, great design allows it to become part of the experience.

Travel also reminds us just how precious our world truly is. To us, sustainability is about more than selecting environmentally conscious products. It's about creating homes with longevity in mind.
Whenever possible, we thoughtfully incorporate furnishings our clients already own, preserve meaningful pieces with lasting craftsmanship, and carefully curate additions that complete the story rather than replace it. Designing spaces that remain beautiful and functional for decades is one of the most sustainable decisions we can make.
